West End Theatre Happier Days

Historic Herman

I have a cunning plan

Was the fire at the Herman De Stern a blessing in disguise? An overall plan seems to be emerging out of all the subterfuge of the South Seafront Land at Felixstowe. The seemingly deliberate run down of the area by the Council the eviction of tenants at the Herman, the closure of the theatre and plan to demolish the building because it did not fit in with the builders plans, look very much like a scene from Black Adder.

However, can some possible good come out of the fire tragedy?

Campaigners trying to save it, and have it rebuilt as an arts centre have been given a boost. Suffolk preservation Society has joined the campaign and has appointed a structural engineer specializing in historical buildings

The society says the century old former convalescent home, community centre, and theatre should not be demolished before the £25 million scheme to redevelop the site and the 17 acres beyond is decided.

The building which was a gift to the people of Felixstowe could be saved from the bulldozers especially as Suffolk Coastal Council could receive £940,000 in insurance pay outs.
