Attempts to save Felixstowe Promenade from the sea were hurriedly being made tonight 20 May 2006. Jcb's were being used to construct a wave break in front of the promenade to save further damage. If the delay in applying for funding repairs to the sea defences has been caused just so the council could get the South Seafront building planning permission. It looks as if it is going to be a very expensive mistake.

Watchers held their breath as a JCB seemed to suddenly lean on one side as it negotiated round the breakwaters

Silhouetted onlookers watch as JCB's pile some of the old broken down breakwaters in the form of a wall to stop the waves breaking on the promenade

The "beware of the drop" gap has grown overnight. What next?

This picture clearly shows the plight of Felixstowe's promenade after year's of sea defence neglect and council general neglect of the South Seafront. the fact that the council are planning to build houses on the land close to this is unbelievable.
