House Misled ?

John Gummer

Andy Burnham

The BBAG considers that the only possible future way forward will be for the community to provide the health care service provision that the NHS refuses to provide, for whatever reason, relying instead on Care in the Community.

Addressing the concerns, which we share, about the reconfiguration of FELIXSTOWE GENERAL HOSPITAL on 19th October 2006, Suffolk MPs obtained an adjournment debate about health care in Suffolk led by John Gummer. In his reply to the MPs, Andy Burnham, the Minister responsible for quality and delivery within the Department of Health, stated that Mr Gummer had made "no mention of the £1.4 million that is being invested in Felixstowe to turn the old general hospital into a modern community hospital which will include a day treatment centre, 16 in-patient beds Work is due to commence on that project next month - on 7th November I believe, ...." We are determined that this commitment by Government is honoured fully. We are asking our MP, who ably arranged the adjournment debate, to clarify the source of the £1.4m (which was obviously available on the 19 th October). Was the Government Minister misleading the House or was he himself misled by our local Health administrators?
