Felixstowe Heading
No-
These are the sentiments of Felixstowe's well known barber Jim Adams who writes a monthly column that is eagerly awaited by many readers. Jim has been known to raise hackles with many of his comments and this one is no exception.
“Felixstowe needs ‘home rule’-
Doubts about the effectiveness for Felixstowe of
‘ Cabinet Rule’ have also come from a rather unusual source ! Namely from a Felixstowe ex mayor Malcolm Minns who after 15 years in the political arena decided to take a break earlier in the year.
Mr Minns spoke of disappointment at not being able to ward off the actions of the Strategic Health Authority and Primary Care Trust. And the failure to regenerate Felixstowe Pier. He regretted his failure to recruit enthusiasm of other councillors to increase the appeal and stature of Felixstowe. And that the change to cabinet rule had not been to the advantage of the district. Press reports record him saying “I believe it has elevated a few councillors to a grand senior status, placing too much in the hands of one person the leader and relegated most councillors to have relatively little impact on the sidelines”
One of the things that residents have noted when administration was carried out by the The Urban District Council (FUDC) at least the sea defences were maintained which has been sadly lacking during the present time. The effect of this on Felixstowe for the future is going to be a primary concern to residents businesses and visitors alike and the cost now to bring them up to date will be a big problem.
