The Development Debate
The Liberal Democrats have shown an interest in the South Seafront saga and produce an information leaflet called Focus . The latest issue contains an addendum listing many facts concerning the venture. Some of these are as follows:

PROPOSED SOUTH SEAFRONT LAND DEVELOPMENT
Application C04/0300.
- Most local residents don't want it.
- Planning Policy Guidance 16, issued by the Office of the Deputy. Prime Minister. is against it;
- English Heritage recommend "that the application for the construction of the public park, including the amphitheatre and 209 dwellings in their current form and location be refused";
- The Suffolk Preservation Society "urges the Council in the strongest possible terms to refuse the application" stating that "clearly, a more radical rethink and entirely different approach is required in order to achieve the right development for this site.";
- The Felixstowe Society "objects to this application for ... Major reasons" and feels it "does nothing to enhance the built environment of Felixstowe"
- It is contrary to Suffolk County Council's own structure plan policies ENV1,3 and 22.
- It is contrary to the District Council's own Local Plan, sections AP7 and AP202:
The Case For
- The ruling party at the District Council (the Conservative Party) want it.
On the back of this addendum to the Lib Dem publicity is a chart high lighting the many departures of the planners from the Area Plan and the scathing comments from the many societies.
